The first week back into the print studio and thus the first entry into this blog where I will be documenting my process and work this semester and next in the printmaking studios. As an introduction back we just talked about our plans moving forward with work this semester. My initial ideas and thoughts this semester is to draw portraits of people who have had a significant influence in my life, or been prevalent at important moments in my life. It is a project I have wanted to do for my final year exhibition as it collates everything I am passionate about. I still unsure at this stage on how to do the portraits whether they should stand alone or whether they should have a surrealist element.
I was suggested to look at two artists for portraiture based inspiration and research, these being; Wuon Gean Ho and Wendy Sharpe. These I will research into in the following week to try and kick start the direction I will take my own portraits.
Ideas mentioned to me/talked about:
- Working big on stone vs working small, could be working towards a few big portraits or do lots of smaller portraits on stone.
- The portraits could interact with each other?
- Could incorporate something into the portraits (making it more surrealist) e.g. a door, objects that represent them or something in the background.
