This week I started working on two smaller portraits as I have decided to go along my central portraits I am going to have some smaller ones of my family, presented a bit like how nineteenth century family portraits would be like. I have decided that unlike the central portraits which I have decided to have the faces more composed as to let the expressional shapes around them explain their self. These additional ones I will include more expression and emotions as they are like small brief faces in a moment of time and will just stand alone as an exploration of identity through a generation of people who had an indirect influence on myself.
Below are the two finished portraits which I will then etch and print next week. I used a korn crayon in no.5 (copal) which worked much better than the softer crayons as I was able to get really sharp fine lines.
That is it for this week, I feel as though I have had quite a cautious approach to the start of the semester - going quite slowly but I feel as though I have reached a point of focus in which I know exactly what I am doing and my work is moving forward fluidly.
