After etching my stone last week I was ready to print this week, again I used three different types of paper to continue to see how my prints look and feel like on different paper, these being; Somerset Satin White, Hahnemuhle and Rives Tan and a very thin Japanese paper.
The print came out really nicely on the Rives Tan paper, as it did last time so moving forward I will definitely use this as my primary paper, however after printing with the black ink I wasn't getting quite the result I wanted. It wasn't quite dark enough in places so I decided to try colour printing.
I wanted a brown colour to try and replicate and almost aged photograph look for the print, we first tried sepia but it came out very cool toned and dark so we added an ochre and crimson to the initial ink and it became a warmer brown. What I noticed straight away was when rolling this coloured ink onto the stone it went on much easier and smoother compared to the black ink which takes a bit more pressure. This was much better for my lithograph as it produced a much darker and intense colour quickly. The overall result below came out well, I think the brown was still slightly too dark so next time I would like to lighten it and perhaps make it more orange toned to get a real sepia colour.
