Reaching the end of the year I wanted to do a blog post just looking back at all the work I've done this year just to round up the results of my work, my opinions/reflections and where it will lead me.
Below is a gallery of all of the final prints from this year from the first through to the last, throughout the semester my work progressed a lot as I found new artists and influences, there is a significant difference between the very first portraits and the last. I found a more delicate and thoughtful approach to drawing portraits in lithography.
Overall I am happy with the progress I have made this term, reflecting upon the methods I used, I think that the last few prints I did of my friend Beth are the most effective, using a korn crayon to get fine lines, creating a more delicate portrait than the dark ones before. After also experimenting with different types of paper this term, going forward I am definitely going to use the Rives Tan, I think for my images it brings out the best printed quality.
Going into the final semester next year and eventually the exhibition of my work I think I have a concrete idea of where I want my work to go and how it will look. I want to follow the idea of identity and sense of self within my portraits so that the eventual exhibition will display prints that express people that mean something to myself and impact my life. The prints I have made this year, although achieved a sense of the person in the portrait I don't think they quite work as stand alone pieces but have allowed me to experiment with how to draw portraits in lithography. So looking forward I hope that the portraits I create next semester will express the familiar faces in my life and resonate with a sense of identity.
